New Church Hall for St Leonards Church, Frankley, Worcestershire Article By: Felix bolger 13/06/2005 - 15:58:54 This project was to provide a much needed community facility, built right next to this beautiful 12th century church on the outskirts of Birmingham. The Hall will be used for receptions, meetings, exhibitions and private functions. The accommodation comprises office, meeting room, toilets, kitchen, store and large function room.
The Lodge blends into the surrounding countryside and already appears to have been built for some time which was an important design criteria as it is sited within a Green Belt Area.
The church already has some 50 weddings booked up for 2005 and so it looks as though the Hall will soon be put to good use and Susan Knowles the Secretary to the Building Committee writes ‘I do think that this hall is first class, and will make an enormous difference to our Church activities’.
The total development is 129m2. The groundwork’s were carried out over a 6 week period and the building was erected and completed in just 2 ½ weeks including heating plumbing and electrics as well as fitting out the kitchen.
Although this project took only 8½ weeks on site it took 4 years to get to this stage. We would like to thank Susan Knowles for her determination to get the project through all the hurdles put in her way. It has been a pleasure dealing with her and we wish Susan and the community much joy in their new hall.
